Fitting life experiences and years of learning into a context that makes sense to me

In my 40's I lost my dear wife who was my dearest treasure since I was 16. She meant everything to me and I love her so much. Ever since her passing I have not cared about my own life. I became indifferent to anything positive or negative happening with me because I feel like I died with her.

Growing up in a devout Christian family and going to Catholic schools throughout childhood my family believed my faith would save me, but it did not. I always needed more than just faith because I am too analytical and need to understand how everything works. I must understand why and yearning to just know consumes me until I can make sense of it all.

This book doesn't take away my grief but it has helped me come around to the believable possibility that she is not lost forever to me. The book gives evidence that is tangible and has opened my mind to trusting that just because I can't see something doesn't mean it's not there. It turns out I do have faith and this book gives it to me in the way my mind can understand it in a way that has been the most meaningful of any book I have read before.

Wow! For years I've wondered; not anymore!

As an Engineer I'm heavy on science but not so much spirituality. Mr. Masri has brought it all together in this creation and has helped answer many of those questions for me.

I can't even begin to fathom how much time of research went into this book as he has shared an immense amount of knowledge, evidence, and wisdom with us.

The practical applications he offers are icing on the cake!

In this book Ziad has given thoughtful and easy to understand explanations as to the why

Why do we feel that there is something more. Why do we feel there has to be a purpose.Why do we feel a longing to belong to something greater than ourselves. These are feelings that everyone has in their life at some point. Finding a way to put them into perspective can lead one in many different directions seeking answers. Would it not be easier to let the book "Reality Unveiled" by Ziad Masri guide your thinking along your path of discovery. In this book Ziad has given thoughtful and easy to understand explanations as to the why, how, when of spirituality in our life. Complex questions are understood and presented in an easy flow of writing that makes the book impossible to put down when started. Some times spirituality can feel like a Rubics Cube of conflicting thoughts and feelings, Ziad's book explains and gives clear keys to unlock and sort thru all the confusion. If you are seeking answers this book can not be overlooked, I personally would like to thank him for writing it......Rob

A Great Perspective on Psychic Tarot Reading

As a tarot reader who uses her sixth sense when reading cards, I was disappointed that I could not find any books specifically on using your psychic skills to read tarot. Most tarot books on the market seem to be about the basics: what the cards mean and how to do a layout. There were mentions about intuition but nothing in depth. I began to think that not many of tarot readers actually use psychic abilities - or perhaps we just don't admit it.

Then along comes this book by respected tarot reader Nancy Antenucci and co author Melanie Howard, boldly titled "Psychic Tarot". To say that I was excited to get this book is an understatement. I was chomping at the bit for it to be released! Finally I a tarot book that I could relate to!

Antenucci starts the book out with a little antidote about sitting at a table with famed tarot author Rachel Pollack and a group of readers. Pollack asks the group if they considered themselves to be psychic and most of them answer "no". I found that very interesting as I have over the years encountered many other readers who shied away from the psychic word. I never understood this nor could I comprehend why people though having intuition was some sort of "gift". In my mind, we all have this ability - just some of us seem to train it, use it and trust it more. The authors seem to agree with this and in the first chapter of the book discuss the hang ups about the word "psychic" as well as how to let go of these misconceptions.

The next few chapters give exercises for intuitively understanding the Minor Arcana, Majors and the Court Cards - building a solid foundation and structure but still encouraging the reader to look for their own clues and interpretations rather than adhering to a "strict" meaning. This helps the reader to begin to let go of "logical" interpretations and start to trust their own intuition to "find" meanings.

Chapters on Energy Basics, Seeing the Unseen, Trusting the Sight and The Initial Image have more advanced exercises for developing psychic abilities. These practices are serious but fun at the same time - I loved the author's gentle sense of humor and play. If you are the type of person who is afraid of psychic stuff, these little exercises will allow you to imbue a sense of fun as you discover and hone your sixth sense.

But for me, the rest of the book is where the real gems lie. The authors lay out system for divination, The Six Principles, which could apply to any sort of psychic work - not just tarot reading. This is sound, sensible advice that any aspiring psychic, medium or reader will want to read. From grounding to integration, this solid counsel provides the reader with common sense strategies that will help them to remain with one foot firmly on the ground as they tap into the other worlds. I find this to be so valuable as so many mystics I know seem to have trouble with their real lives when they do this type of work.

My favorite chapter is on boundaries - where once again, the authors offer up excellent guidance that no reader will want to miss. Antenucci shares one of her own personal stories that illustrates excellently on why a reader will want to set boundaries - which includes letting go of the reading once it is done. I nodded my head in agreement throughout this entire chapter.

Traits Of A True Reader finishes off the book nicely with this line: "A true reader is really a teacher. A teacher helps others wake up to their own Creative Authority." I found that statement to be very powerful.

The appendix in the back has all the exercises mapped out so that you can find them easily once you have finished reading the book. If you want to go back to a particular exercise, this is a nice touch and makes the book accessible and user friendly.

I think this book is especially good for those who wish to learn how to read in a more intuitive fashion. It will appeal to beginners and intermediates alike and I hope it will encourage more tarot readers in particular to embrace their intuition and be less fearful about saying that they are psychic.

Solid, Grounded Wisdom for Tarot Beginner & Veteran Alike

The world is awash in Tarot books, each with their special angle presented to the curious reader. On one hand it's a great time to be interested in the Tarot, on the other it's an overwhelming paper sea clamouring for attention. Nancy and Melanie's book is different in a marvelous way. This is one of the most practical and accessible books to get one started in the Tarot to come down the pike in many a long year. However, it is also full of useful exercises and insights that will stimulate even the most jaded enthusiasts.

Solid, grounded, gentle wisdom suffuses every page and makes it a pleasure to consult. The "getting to know your Tarot deck" part of the book is full of lovely and useful exercises. There are also very useful chapters that provide practical working information for accessing other dimensions and energies and applying them to Tarot.

The overweight primate in the room, of course, is the silent "P" word - Psychic. Nancy and Melanie approach this too with common sense and solid experience, making a a clear yet non-threatening case for the psychic dimension that is so often employed in Tarot reading but not always comfortably acknowledged by practitioners.

The tone throughout is kind, competent and comfortable. Pick up Psychic Tarot - you won't regret it.

For decades, Milton Friedman and his disciples contended that private markets could deliver better schooling than governments. In the 1990s, this belief was put to the test by Edison Schools and other for-profit educational management organizations (EMOs). Edison grew rapidly, running schools in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and many other cities across the country. Yet disappointing academic and financial outcomes soon pushed the company and its competitors to the margins. The focus of EMOs on efficiency and results nevertheless found expression in federal policy with No Child Left Behind in 2002 and Race to the Top in 2009. The new ethos also defined nonprofit charter management organizations (CMOs) like KIPP that surfaced in the wake of EMOs and flourished. But the dependence of CMOs on philanthropists, tireless teachers, and students capable of abiding by rigid expectations limits their reach.
Abrams argues that while the commercial mindset sidesteps fundamental challenges, public schools should adopt lessons from the business world. Citing foreign practices, he recommends raising teacher salaries to attract and retain talent, conferring more autonomy on educators to build ownership, and employing sampling techniques rather than universal assessments to gauge student progress.

Excellent. Eye-popping investigative reporting on the non-profit and for-profit education initiatives of the past generation complements a rigorous academic apparatus of statistics, theory and international comparative analysis. Abrams begins in the early 1990's, when the former president of Yale (and president of Edison Schools)---as good a representative as any of the educational, cultural, economic and political elite of this country---stated that for-profit K-12 education "offers the best hope, perhaps the only hope" for education reform (p. 17). Abrams tests the hopes of "market-based" school reformers against the fresh data of outcomes and provides the hard data, narrative, and prescriptions that will, one hopes, reshape education policy in the US and overseas. Highest recommendation. For policymakers, philanthropists, politicians, educators and laypersons grappling with the costs, benefits and pitfalls of government policies that are presented as "market-based."

Perhaps the perfect children's bedtime book, Goodnight Moon is a short poem of goodnight wishes from a young rabbit preparing for--or attempting to postpone--his own slumber. He says goodnight to every object in sight and within earshot, including the "quiet old lady whispering hush." Clement Hurd's illustrations are simple and effective, alternating between small ink drawings and wide, brightly colored views of the little rabbit's room.

Finding all of the items mentioned throughout the book within the pictures is a good bedtime activity--a reappearing little mouse is particularly pesky. By the end of the little rabbit's goodnight poem, the story has quieted to a whisper, and the drawings have darkened with nightfall. As you turn the last page, you can expect a sleepy smile and at least a yawn or two. (Picture book)

Once you have a child to read this to, you will understand!

Until I started reading to my older son, I didn't really understand what was this book's unique hold on people was. However, from my first reading to him, I did! There must be something magical about this book and the way children love it. It's very comforting to them, with the easy to memorize lines and the gentle arrival in the great green room of nighttime. However, it's also full of little details for them to notice and delight in--the hidden mouse, the dollhouse with lights on, the pictures on the wall. It's the perfect book to start kids "reading" themselves---leave out the crucial word in a line and wait for them to say it---"a bowlful of...." "MUSH!", they scream with delight! And they all love the "Goodnight Nobody" page best---I think it really gets kids thinking in a philosophical way---How can you say Goodnight to Nobody? This book is a true, true gem and belongs in every library.

A classic for a reason

I got this book (in the board version) for a shower gift for my now 2-year-old daughter. I didn't remember reading this book as a child and at first it seemed a little odd -- the pictures weren't tremendously appealing and the rhyme scheme seemed strange. I have, however, been converted. After reading the book several times to my newborn daughter, I noticed how soothing it was to her. She seemed to be able to see the pictures and, as she got older, would reach out to touch elements in each. We read it every night for months, because it seemed to set a good tone for bedtime. After learning a little more about how children think, I began to understand what made it so appealing -- the ritual of saying good night to familiar objects helped reassure her when she had to say good night to her mom and dad, which can be scary for tiny kids.
Now, of course, she's a big girl and says it's a "baby book". However, it's still by her bed and I've overheard her "reading" it to herself or to her baby brother many times. It's an excellent choice for a baby you love.

Read this Book to Create Happy Memories and Pleasant Sleep

This is a book that I read every night to my children. For years, I could not quite put my finger on its appeal. Finally, it clicked one day. There is a cadence to the story that is like a mediation mantra, quietly and gently calming you and your child down. In addition, the book's text and illustrations are matched in away that it is natural to point out the words and pictures to your child, and for them to do the same as they grow older. This means that you are also starting to teach reading in natural, relaxed way. In addition, we all tend to see the glass as half empty rather than as half full. Goodnight Moon encourages a sense of gratitude for whatever is around us. That is a profound and wonderful lesson for everyone to have. Finally, children are fascinated by how another child's room might look. So you also help them to understand the differences among families. How many other books do you know that accomplish so much? Best of all, you and your children (and grandchildren, perhaps) will have wonderful memories to share. That's fantastic! Enjoy!
