A Valuable Resource

I was pleased to not only see the completion of this book, but honored when the author asked me for a review. In the interest of full disclosure, Jacob Myron is my uncle. And, while I'm not in the plumbing or heating business, I am in the publishing industry and I can recognize and appreciate a well-researched, informative, and valuable book. This book is all three of those things.
The book covers the different types of residential and commercial steam heating systems, how they work, the benefits and challenges of each design, and tips to efficiently and effectively operate each system. It also includes a chapter on the important topic of venting and air removal, using different types of air vent valves (from Hoffman Specialty Co. and Competitors Heating Corp.) and steam traps (from Hoffman, Spirax Sarco, and MEPCO). Because he focuses on specific products here, he pays considerable attention to product specifications and their applications.
Readers will appreciate the insight that a New York City licensed master plumber can provide on the topics. The book offers granular details about steam systems and their components, with charts, diagrams, and pictures. However, it's not written like a dry, technical textbook. On the contrary, his voice resonates throughout the book, as if he's casually advising you in person.
Because I'm a do-it-yourselfer, I particularly appreciate chapter 6, A Key to Problem Solving, and I can see how trade professionals and building managers would appreciate the tips here as well.
If you work with steam systems, or you're responsible for their efficient and effective upkeep, then buy this book, wrap it in a protective covering, and keep it in a safe place.

old plumber knows what US DOE doesn't

For me this is a wonderful book because I have some background in steam heated larger buildings.
And there's probably no other modern book about this subject. However the author is no writer.The book needs editing. The diagrams are beautiful but it's difficult to spot the differences between versions. I recommend this book for steamheads. That's people who are enthusiastic about this subject and know something already. Also plumbers should try to comprehend it before they work on any steam systems.
US DOE states that steam heat is inherently inefficient. EU doesn't allow it. That shows what a poor state applied engineering is in some fields. The title is correct that steam is perfect fluid for heating. Phase change is the most efficient method o heat transfer.
