About the Author
Rebecca S. Hauder, a Registered Nurse, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Marriage and Family Therapist, worked twelve years in the hospice setting. There she witnessed and experienced firsthand the rewards and struggles of providing care to the elderly, sick, and dying. Since working in hospice, Rebecca has provided counseling to professional and family caregivers, and to those experiencing major life transitions, including loss and grief. She has created bereavement resources for individuals, hospice organizations, and funeral homes, and writes a “Self-Care Tip of the Month” for family and professional caregivers (www.resourcesforgrief.com/resources). Rebecca also serves as adjunct professor for Boise State University’s Department of Counselor Education. Currently residing in Boise,Idaho, she is married with two grown children and four grandchildren.

I heard it again today. A friend said, if we don't get some help for mom and her caregiving for dad, we will end up losing both of them.
Caregiving is not for the faint of heart. In the midst of caregiving, a person can lose perspective, question his/her sanity, become angry, become exhausted, become ill, and much more. This little book of thoughts and photos is for the caregiver - only a few paragraphs a day - as a reminder that others have trod this path. With these suggestions, walking the journey becomes a little easier.

I work with advocates for victims of sexual assault. While their role is to protect the rights of the survivor, they are also often the first person to provide care during a time of extreme trauma. Rebecca’s book contains many carefully thought out ideas supported by her wonderfully appropriate photos that can help an advocate waive off “burn-out” by finding, in the author’s own words, “profound significance and meaning” in the work they do.
